When I made the decision to join Access Bank about a year ago, I was not sure what to expect. Would it just be another company trying to carve a niche for itself or would it be a bank with an unquenchable thirst to transform the banking landscape? Would it be a place that nurtures talent and empowers employees or would it be a bank that does not? I could not wait to find out.

Thankfully, I made it through the rigorous recruitment process and everyday since the first day I walked into the Bank has been incredible. I have had an awesome time coming to work every day with brilliant minds, eager to innovate, learn, teach, lead and serve.

I work out of the Treasury Department which is basically the heart of the Bank. My team members and I are charged with the responsibility of managing the Bank’s liquidity and interest rate risk; trade fixed-income securities (Treasury Bills and Bonds) as well as currencies, amongst other key tasks.

You would expect that being a very sensitive function, most of the crucial tasks would be reserved for the higher ranked officers and not be left to ‘rookie hands’. However, the reverse is the case. I am challenged every day to do things I was not entirely sure I could do, but my time at the Access Bank Training School has more than prepared me to excel. This is also largely as a result of the trainings, constant engagement with my bosses and the great atmosphere that exists within the Bank.

The trend described above is not peculiar to the Treasury Department but prevalent across the Bank. Younger intellectuals are entrusted with challenging tasks their peers in other institutions are not afforded. This only serves to instil confidence and develop competence. I am proud to say that I am a product of this system.

My experience with Access Bank has really been life-changing and I have advised all my friends to get on the train quickly. I look forward to many more years of ground-breaking success with Access Bank.
